This brief FAQ addresses creativity training in general and how Innovation Styles facilitates comprehensive creativity development.
Q: What is a creativity test?
A: A creativity test, or creativity assessment, is a questionnaire that helps you learn important things about your personal creativity – how you are creative, how you innovate, how you solve problems. It is the first essential step in a comprehensive personal creativity training strategy that helps you:
- Know yourself – determine your own unique style, its strengths and weaknesses, and how it fits into the range of possible styles
- Know others – learn how to cope with others who might have different styles, how they can help you solve problems outside your preference, and how you can ultimately help them
- Develop creativity skills – learning creative thinking techniques, creativity processes, and focused problem solving skills
- Apply these skills individually or in groups
Creativity training is the backbone of personal, professional, and organizational development.
Q: Why do I need to become more creative?
A: The ‘creative sector’ is growing by leaps and bounds in our culture. A hundred years ago, 75 percent of the US population worked in either in the agriculture or vocational sector. Now, the same percentage of people are in the service and the creative sectors. As repetitive cognitive functions are increasingly outsourced to the global economy, or met by software, future growth will be in areas emphasizing non-routine problem solving, innovation, and creativity.
Q: What do you mean by ‘creativity?’
A: By ‘creativity’ we mean your ability to solve problems, to create novelty, to innovate. Creativity has two components: LEVEL (How creative am I) and STYLE (In what way am I creative). Innovation can be thought of the same way – how innovative am I, and how do I innovate.
